Here's a bit of a rundown of our Halloween weekend here in Singapore. Given that Halloween was on Sunday, it was already a bit different than usual but in many ways to same. It started Friday afternoon with the usual school parades and class parties - for the younger kids that is (Ashlyn and Dallin didn't actually have school that day due to parent/teacher conferences).

Alexa decided to be Little Red Riding Hood this year.

After much deliberation and many changes (as usual), Breann decided to be a hippie.

Bryant enjoyed attending the classroom parties and eating all the yummy treats with his siblings.

That night, the kids went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. There are about 15-20 LDS families that live here in the neighborhood so the kids went to those houses as well as a whole street with cars of ward members that wanted to participate but live elsewhere on the island. After trick -or -treating, they went to one house for goodies and a movie. Here they are with their cousins, ready to set out (Bryant's a 'worker' - we had to convince him he'd sweat too much in the dog costume he wore last year).

Assessing the loot (not much compared to years past, but definitely better than nothing - Bryant of course was thrilled, not remembering anything different).

We had heard about the craziness of Halloween here in our neighborhood as we live in the 'American' area - close to the American School. Since Halloween is really an American holiday (which stems from who knows where), many of the Singaporeans have heard over the years that free candy is handed out in this neighborhood if you dress up so slowly they have gravitated also. This picture depicts our street at about 6:30, not long after trick-or-treating had commenced.

These pictures show the streets by about 7:30 that night. It's hard for pictures to do it justice. Ashlyn said that it reminded her of Time Square in New York at night.

Needless to say, I had about 2500 pieces of candy and ran out about 7:45. The kids had a great time helping pass out candy and experiencing this phenomenon just a bit. Craig commented on how polite everyone was, many of the kids giving a slight bow when you put candy in their bags. The kids look forward to joining the trick-or-treating next year and hopefully we'll be better prepared (we'll have to start stocking candy in August).
