In high school at the Singapore American School, the students have a mandatory week long interim trip. There are about 60 trip choices all over the world. The freshman generally stay in southeast Asia as they are the last to pick their trip - each trip is limited to 20 students. Fortunately, Ashlyn picked a wonderful service trip that she will probably remember all her life. She went to the Philippines to help build houses on a tiny island called Bantayan Island

They worked with a charity that builds villages in remote, poor areas of the Phillapines. They did alot of manual labor and a lot of painting. The worked with the people of the village who also help build their houses.

The also got to participate in some cultural events and visit the schools.

Close friendships were formed as these 19 high schools spent this week together working hard and serving - with some fun times and playing in between, I'm sure.
